Is social media Good or Bad for society?

In a parent concern on “Common Sense Media,” kids have been posting pictures either revealing private information or who their identity is. According to Common Sense Media, a parent is concerned about if they should put their children online and kids have been already doing that by revealing their identity and their location. Social media is bad for society because social media makes adults and children more endangered with the websites used and not knowing what the website is. Also, students that use social media too often will usually get lower grades than usual. Finally, it causes people to stay isolated and not go outside to interact with people face to face.

First, social media has caused more people may endanger themselves from the websites they are using. According to ProCons, the 2012 film Project X, about an out of control high school house party due to social media promotion, prompted copycat parties across the US resulting in arrests for vandalism, criminal trespassing, and other offenses. What this means is social media is sometimes complicated so some teens or kids or even adults making a post

about private information or even texting private information. For example, some teens were having a party and they posted an invite thinking it was private but it was public meaning everybody saw it so over 30,000

Second, most students that have a cell phone or electronic device and they use it often they will most likely get lower grades. According to ProCon students that

use electronics for homework or anywhere in class get lower grades or have a higherGPA which is not good. What this means is that kids had a lower GPA when they didn’t have the technology but when technology hit the schools most of the schools’ GPA was higher than usual and also, they drop 0.12 point per 93 minutes. For example, there was a school that had to get rid of technology and the students’ performance improved by 6 percent. Furthermore, students in the school dropped the GPA by a whole year in 30 minutes.

Third, people stay isolated when they use a device all day and don’t interact with people in the outside world face to face. According to ProCon children or teens or even adults have only been using their phones all the time and responding to a text as if their lives depend on it. What this means is the percent of people talking face to face is decreasing by a lot and it is becoming a habit in our society. For example, 32% of people with technology text or respond to social media during meals and family time like holidays and everything else like that. Furthermore, 10% of the younger people under 25 respond to text and social media during sex.

While social media is bad for society, others may argue with opposing viewpoint. Evidence found on ProCon may be how social

media \sites are able to help police with finding criminals. What this means is police are able to look at social media sites to see if they can find any pictures or information on the certain person that did the crime. For example, 73% of federal, state, and local law enforcement professionals surveyed think “social media helps solve crimes more quickly.” To elaborate on this, social media can have a very small impact on our society if it will be used for the right use.

In conclusion, parents on Common Sense Media don’t like the idea of social media being a thing because of them revealing where they live and location making random people know a lot more information than they need to know. According to Common Sense Media, parent have been asking a lot of questions if they should post videos or pictures of their children or relatives. The thing is kids and other teens have been posting their locations and where they are at. Social media is very bad for our society and planet. First of all, people’s brains are being manipulated by the electronics we use in the 21st century. Second, there can be false information about a certain news article or just causing gossip. Finally, it will cause people to just not to want to be with other people making them isolated and just not wanting to talk face to face.
